February Pick 3 Pins

I am linking up with Pawsitively Teaching, Just Reed, and Inspired Owl's Corner to share my top 3 favourite pins for the month of February!

Aren't these Love Monsters adorable? What a fun Valentine's Day craft!

This is a great idea for a class party. Cutting the cheese into little hearts makes it that much more appealing! :)

I love the idea of non-candy valentines and I think this would be a great option to give to students! It looks like this particular pack has 8 crayons in it and is from Target (hopefully from the Dollar Spot!).

Thank you for reading! Make sure to check out all of the other fantastic pins by clicking on a picture below.

January Pick Three Pinterest Pins

I have taken a few months off, but I am so glad to be back! This is my favourite linky. Thank you to PAWSitively Teaching, Just Reed, and Inspired Owl's Corner for hosting.

I thought this idea would be a super cute project for a 2D shape unit! It would make a fantastic bulletin board display. It would be neat to see how different each student's final product looks.

Wow... don't you think this cloud dough would smell delicious? I like to make sensory bins with edible ingredients (just in case) but maybe this one would be too appetizing! :)

This is a great project for those students needing a little extra fine motor practice! Instead of using the little dot stickers, you could also use q-tips and paint (or the end of a pencil).

Thank you for reading,

Five Freebies for Friday - Classroom Procedures

Here are some FREE ideas from some amazing teacher-authors that will help you get your class up and running!

I love this mini poster made by Proud to be Primary.  It is a great reminder of the expectations for a good listener.

If you are lucky enough to have iPads in your classroom, you MUST check out these posters made by Mrs. Beattie's Classroom. Unfortunately, you can't expect your students to know how to properly care for technology in the classroom. These posters are a great visual reminder throughout the year for those who need it!

I love these labels made by Ship Shape First Grade. This classroom supply procedure is simple enough and it works really well! I thought these were great because they will match any classroom decor.

Here is a very useful freebie from PreKinders.com. I like using this technique to dismiss students from the carpet but, is it just me or does anyone else draw a blank when deciding "what" to dismiss by? I always resort to "if you're wearing..." but that gets boring very quickly! I also like to use current curriculum topics to dismiss students. For example, "give me a word that rhymes with ....?".

"How to use glue" seems like a easy enough procedure but, save yourself the stress of unclogging glue bottles by explicitly teaching this skill. Check out this awesome freebie from Math Coach's Corner.

Thank you for reading! I hope you have found something useful for your classroom.

Have a great weekend,
Ms. Makinson

Five Freebies for Friday - Back to School

I am BACK! After a few weeks off, I am excited to start up this series again. I hope that you find something you can use in your classroom. Be sure to check out all the other great things these creators have to offer! :)

This is a must have freebie from Stomping Through First! Get to know your students' reading preferences by having them fill out these surveys during the first week of school. These three pages were designed with emergent readers in mind!

Check out these super cute printables from Amanda Parker and Family. These are perfect for back to school or a "meet the teacher" night. What a fantastic freebie!

I absolutely love this activity made by Ashley from Just Reed. This is a really neat way for you and your class to get to know each other.
Also, take a look at Ashley's Teachers Pay Teachers store!

MUST. STAY. ORGANIZED! Check out these cute binder covers made by Maria from Kinder Craze
Maria's Teachers Pay Teachers Store has loads of great ideas so be sure to check it out.

Here is a fantastic activity from Mrs. Gilchrist's Class for the first week of school.

Five Freebies for Friday - Canada Day

This first freebie was created by Mrs. W (Mrs. Watts' Little Lights) who just happens to be MY sister! :) This packet has eight fantastic print and go pages to help you and your students (or your own kids) celebrate Canada Day!

Looking for something for older kids? Check out this freebie from Diana Bailey.  Included are 8 discussion or writing prompts about national identity. One of my favourite topics that Diana included is about whether or not it is important to know about your country's history, geography, and culture. I think having a class discussion or debate would be a great end of the year activity!

If you are looking for something that is more in depth, check out Diana's larger unit on Canadian Identity. It includes 14 informational texts with activities and is perfect for grades 5-7. Diana also has many other units with Canadian content in her store. I purchased her unit for Remembrance Day about John McCrae last fall and I used every single page!

This freebie made by Elyse from Proud to be Primary is jammed packed with awesome activities! These printables are perfect for primary grades. One of my favourite pages is the Canadians... "Can, Have, Are" graphic organizer. It would be neat to see what each student comes up with as they reflect on what it means to be Canadian! :)

The freebie above is a sample of a larger unit that explores Canadian symbols. It includes 160 pages worth of activities that look at 12 Canadian symbols (the Canadian flag, hockey, etc.) I have put this unit on my wish list!!

This reading comprehension freebie from Ashley Lafleur is written from an American's perspective and is perfect for students who are learning about Canada. Don't forget to leave her some love!

Finally, I thought I would include a freebie with printables that you can use if you are hosting a get-together! :) This set is from A Little Pixel

Happy Canada Day!!

Thank you for reading! I hope you have found something that you can use. Don't forget to leave a comment to let these creators know that you appreciate that they have shared their hard work with you!
